The HMPV test detects the presence of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) — a respiratory virus that causes infections similar to influenza, RSV, or the common cold. It is performed using RT-PCR techiniqe , which identifies the viral RNA in respiratory samples.
HMPV causes respiratory tract infections ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to bronchitis or pneumonia.
More common in infants, elderly, and immunocompromised patients.
